Volcano Dawn

We leave the resort a little after four, when the road through the villages is still empty. At the foot of the hill your guide hands out torches and warm coffee, and the walk begins in the dark.

The path climbs gently through farmland and forest for about ninety minutes. Near the top the sky starts to change, and by the time you sit down Mount Agung is lit pink and gold above a sea of cloud.

Breakfast is served on the ridge, then we walk back down in daylight and return to the resort before the heat of the morning.
